How To Solve Cryptogram Puzzles
Cryptograms are word puzzles based on a simple substitution cipher. Each letter in the puzzle has been replaced by another letter; no letter ever represents itself.
To solve the puzzle, the reader must use educated guesses in an attempt to figure out the code.
In the English language, letters are represented in words with a certain frequency. Here are the order of occurence of each letter, from most common to least common: e t a o i n s r h l d c u m f p g w y b v k x j q z Additional ideas may be gleaned from the letter and word frequency page. Solve each cryptogram on this site to reveal a memorable quotation. Keep an eraser handy, and good luck!
