Today is Veterans Day
Posted by Philip C. Paradis on November 11, 2009
Article Icon Traditionally observed in the United States on November 11 of each year, today is Veterans Day. Intended as a day of honor for those who have served our nation in the military, the holiday was originally conceived by Woodrow Wilson as Armistice Day in 1919.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has created a Veterans Day teacher resource guide to assist educators in helping students learn about this holiday.

Please take this opportunity to thank your local veterans for their service. The sacrifices made by these citizens in the defense of our nation are immeasurable and deeply appreciated.

Happy Halloween!
Posted by Philip C. Paradis on October 31, 2009
Article Icon We'd like to wish all our visitors a safe and happy Halloween. If you're "trick or treating" this evening, please be sure to follow a few basic safety rules:
  • If you're going to be out after dark, it's a good idea to attach reflective tape (frequently used by cyclists) to costumes. This alerts drivers to a person's presence.
  • Children should always be accompanied by an adult.
  • All treats should be examined by a parent. Any treats that aren't securely wrapped from the manufacturer should be given special attention.
To learn more about this holiday, you may wish to read the Wikipedia article on Halloween.
